blog assignment:

something "interesting" from internship:

  • the room looks very antiquated (Roman column beside the door, Greek statue)
  • the water served by the worker tasted weird
  • mostly sedentary work
  • work: finding info and translating into Japanese

how to be a better language learner/ student?
  • To start learning a new language, use a method that you would enjoy learning like watching anime!

something interesting about my home country:
  • visitors are not allowed to go into kitchen
  • obsession with kawaii culture first began in the 1970s at the height of Japan's economic growth.
  • the gestures of "go away" & "come here" often confuse foreigners in japan
  • slurping food is good because it indicates that you are enjoying food

reading post

"Winter Dreams" is an interesting story read in class. The story is humorous because Judy Jones, someone who has beauty and seems to have grace, attempts to hit her nurse with golf clubs. It is a bit disappointing though when Dexter married the other girl and could not see that he actually loved Judy, and not merely for his success.

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors?

The story "Mending Wall" leaves off with ambiguity, not stating whether the author believes a wall is necessary or not. I believe walls are necessary because they can protect our properties from being destroyed by neighbor's pets. They also give the narrator of the story an opportunity to talk to his neighbor.

Journey to Taiwan

The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area, which is near center of Taiwan, is the top choices for sightseeing. It is named Sun Moon Lake because an island divides the lake into the shape of sun in the east while the shape of moon in the west. The beauty is in emerald green water that reflects the hills and mountains. When mountains are covered with mist, the scenery reminds tourists of a Chinese painting. Tourists who visited there at dawn or dusk would describe the scenery as a "Crystalline Fairyland" sparkled in gold. Chirping of birds integrates the illusion of this unspeakably beautiful fairyland.
